An update from WRAP – January 2021

WRAP continues to support our community despite the current circumstances. We are looking forward to re-opening our wonderful well-praised Day Care Service, our supportive Cafe WRAP and new Garden project, and running our successful OCN accredited Looking after a Loved One (LAALO) course! In the meantime, we are expanding our offerings in the Resource Centre, and we welcome Janice Crompton-Brough as our new Resource Centre Co-ordinator, supporting Mike and the team.

Condolences The WRAP team send our condolences to Ruth Jeacock whose husband Gordon passed away. Gordon’s funeral was yesterday (Monday) and Ruth and her family are in our thoughts.

Mike is busily working from home and pleased to report Wendy is recovering well from her triple heart bypass. Thank you to everyone who has sent cards, flowers and well wishes, it is much appreciated.

Telephone Support Mike continues to offer telephone support to all in the community, carers and loved ones. We understand that some days are good and some are not. We are here for a chat, and to help where we can.

Volunteer of the year:- Although it has been a difficult year it was easy to award the”Volunteer of the year” award to Gill Peregrine . Who during the lock down cooked and delivered dinners and visited those on their own giving them support. So well done Gill.

Register for LAALO Mike is also updating the LAALO course and invites anyone who is interested to call him on 07803 729894, and he will get back to you. Places on the programme are limited and in high demand, so please register your interest as early as you can, and we will contact you.

LAALO is a FREE, informal, people-friendly information and support programme for people looking after a loved one who is in the early stages of the dementia journey, regardless of the type diagnosed.

During the programme you will:

  • learn about the different types of dementia
  • receive help with finance and legal issues
  • find out how reminiscence promotes wellbeing for your loved one
  • discover techniques for coping with stress
  • meet with  social services representatives and others

New Triggerbank Resources Jane has been busy working out of a container – brrrr – chilly! Organising and creating our fabulous NEW resource boxes for the Resource Centre. Still multi-sensory, easier to handle, covering a wider variety of memories and times. We’re always working to expand and improve the Resource Centre – even in these strange times! We can’t wait to get them out to you!
