Autumn Update 2021

As the lovely autumnal sunshine makes way for the cooler, darker evenings to come, at WRAP we are getting ready for a busy, exciting autumn and winter. Our September newsletter is out, please call in to the office or call 01789 261061 if you would like to receive a copy.

Last weekend WRAP went to the Tiddington Fete and it was a lovely day out, making the most of the final days of summer. The weather stayed kind and thanks to the generosity of the people who attended we raised additional, much needed funds and sold some vintage comics, games and toys.

Our Cafe WRAP is proving to be a lifeline for people who are looking for support, advice and friendship, and we are welcoming new members almost every week. You too can join us with your loved one living with dementia, every Friday afternoon from 2 – 4pm at Bishopton Community Centre. It is free to attend! Just email wrap1@hotmail.co.uk or call 01789 261061 to pop your name on our list. Just some of the activities already planned … we will be making Halloween decorations, taking a trip down memory lane with Mike’s Fireworks and sparklers, making lovely music with Janice and her drums and bells, creating wonderful crafts with Carey our in-house artist, and singing carols with Anne.

If you or your loved one has had a recent diagnosis of dementia, please sign up NOW to get a place on the FREE LAALO programme ‘Looking after a loved one living with dementia’. At the moment you may feel you are totally alone, with few if anyone to talk to. You may not know who to go to for help, with practical things as well as emotional and mental wellbeing and support.
When you book onto the FREE LAALO programme, you join a group of skilled facilitators, subject matter experts, and people just like you who are going through similar life changes. We are here to support each other, and we invite you to reach out and join us …
Our guest speakers cover all the questions you may have, and we also help you with your wellbeing so that you are better prepared for the journey ahead. Areas we cover include What is dementia, You and your well-being
Finances and support, Legal aspects, Other help and resources.
To register simply call 01789 261061 or call 07803 729894 and chat to Mike. You can send us an email wrap1@hotmail.co.uk and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Sponsor a trigger box! WRAP is embarking on an exciting new project to enhance our collection of trigger boxes. We are asking local businesses to sponsor new and existing boxes in return for their logo on their chosen box, our website, social media etc.,
For example, we are looking for a local GP practice or Wellbeing Centre who could sponsor our “Family Health” box; a local travel agent to sponsor “Holidays Abroad” box; A clothes retailer or restaurant to sponsor “Dressing up and Going Out”, and a local garage to sponsor “Car Maintenance”.
The Royal Shakespeare Company has already committed to this project and a new sponsored trigger box entitled “A Night at the Theatre” is in development! A big thank you to Tara Johnston-Comerford, Creative Placemaking & Public Programmes – Engagement Officer for the RSC.
We invite lovely local organisations who are excited by this opportunity to be involved in this special project to support WRAP’s work with dementia clients, to contact Janice at wrap1@hotmail.co.uk or 01789 261061 for more details.

Are you a member of our Resource Centre? Do you work within a care home? Do you run a memory café or support group, locally?
To support people living with dementia and their loved ones and carers, WRAP has developed an extensive library of resources ranging from bookds and postcards, to costumes and artefacts from yesteryear. Our artefacts are sorted into themes e.g. ‘Codebreakers’, ‘Cakes and baking’ , ‘School Days’s and many more!
We call these our ‘Trigger Boxes’ and they are specially developed to support the practice of Reminiscence Therapy. Our trigger boxes are also designed to stimulate the five senses through touch, taste, smell, hearing and seeing, to help trigger memories and conversation.
If you are a care organisation or you run a memory/dementia support group, you can access these items for your group from the WRAP Resource Centre for only £84 a year! Our wonderful Jane Marsh updates and organises our collection and we have nearly 50 boxes so far …

To find out more about any of our projects, membership and supporter options or to discover our current volunteering opportunities, please email wrap1@hotmail.co.uk or call us on 01789 261061.
